The EUHA Members’ Assembly, scheduled for June 25 in Rotterdam, will be hosted by Erasmus MC and will bring together representatives from all EUHA members, eleven of Europe’s leading university hospitals. During the meeting, EUHA representatives will discuss EUHA’s ongoing projects, review the progress of EUHA working groups and networks, prioritise activities and discuss EUHA’s strategy and agenda.
Twice a year, representatives from each EUHA member organisation, including their CEOs and members of the EUHA Steering Committee, come together at the Members’ Assembly to shape the alliance’s agenda and priorities. The CEOs play a key role in setting direction for the Steering Committee, networks, and working groups. This year’s June assembly will be held on Wednesday, June 25, in Rotterdam, and will be chaired by Prof Dr Stefan Sleijfer, CEO of Erasmus MC, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, and current EUHA President.
In addition, from June 23 to 25, several EUHA networks and working groups will convene to exchange experiences and strengthen collaboration. As part of the programme, the AI@EUHA Symposium will showcase the growing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare across EUHA member institutions.
Advancing AI Across University Hospitals
AI@EUHA Symposium
AI is rapidly transforming healthcare, offering opportunities to make it more effective, accessible, and sustainable. However, integrating AI poses challenges such as building trust, addressing clinical deployment issues, ensuring access to quality data, and guaranteeing the safety and reliability of AI systems. To address these challenges and discuss the opportunities and challenges of AI within academic healthcare, Erasmus MC has organised the symposium AI@EUHA that will take place on June 24.
The AI@EUHA Symposium will bring together senior leaders, clinical AI pioneers, and implementation experts from EUHA member institutions to explore the role of artificial intelligence in academic healthcare. The programme includes keynote presentations and four dedicated workshops covering AI governance, clinical evaluation, implementation in clinical workflows, and the development of high-value data repositories. Targeted at hospital executives, CMIOs, CNIOs, AI leads, ethics officers, and clinical staff engaged in AI-supported care, the symposium aims to not only share expertise but also lay the groundwork for EUHA-wide collaboration. Each workshop will progress from knowledge exchange to defining concrete actions, fostering a shared vision for responsibly advancing AI across academic hospitals and EUHA.
Focusing on Our Unique Impact
EUHA brings together experts from across university hospitals to collaborate on projects that drive real-world innovation, improve patient care, and shape the future of healthcare. This collaborative spirit will be on full display during our June events at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, where a series of meetings of the EUHA Working Groups and Networks will take place.
These include meetings of the Nursing Network, Learning in Value Working Group, Innovation Network, MDR/IVDR Network, Digital Health and Data Network, EUCCAT Working Group, HR Directors Network, and a special session for Directors of Medical Programmes.
EUHA Networks and Working Groups in Action
The Nursing Network will meet from June 23 to 25 with a full agenda. One key topic will be their upcoming participation in the International Council of Nurses (ICN) Congress in Helsinki (June 9–13), which will mark the first time the EUHA Nursing Network represents the alliance at this major global event. The network will also continue planning for the next EUHA Nursing Focus Visit, scheduled for November in Aarhus, Denmark. (Read more about EUHA Nursing Focus Visits here).
The Learning in Value Working Group will explore funding opportunities for collaborative, value-based healthcare projects involving EUHA members.
The Innovation Network will meet on June 23 to discuss funding strategies and approaches for identifying and tracking innovation indicators. On June 24, it will join the MDR/IVDR Network coordinators for a joint session focused on shared priorities and opportunities for collaboration to strengthen the innovation capacity of university hospitals.
The MDR/IVDR Network will then convene separately on June 25 to follow up on its recent Open Letter to the European Commission, which addressed the impact of the MDR and IVDR regulations on innovation in academic hospitals. The group will also explore potential new areas of focus for future work.
The Digital Health and Data Network will meet on June 24 and 25 to discuss the potential expansion of its benchmarking activities, either by extending the current focus on breast cancer indicators to include more EUHA members or by applying the benchmarking framework to additional disease areas. The group will also discuss EUHA’s involvement in the EU-funded project QUANTUM, which focuses on assessing the quality and maturity of data within healthcare settings.
The HR Directors Network will meet to discuss local leadership and sustainable employability. In parallel, a dedicated session on Medical Education will bring together EUHA experts for the first time to learn from one another, share experiences, and explore joint initiatives to address the shared challenges in training the next generation of healthcare professionals.
The EUCCAT Working Group (European Centre for Gene and Cellular Therapies), which, brings together basic research groups, medicinal production facilities, and clinical trial capacity within EUHA members to facilitate the rapid translation of research results into applicable therapies at ethical prices, will meet on June 23 to discuss the progress of the EUHA-driven cross-border decentralised study for treating cancer patients with gene-engineered cells, new calls for optimising the development of ATMPs, and the development of advanced therapies for sickle cell disease.
EUHA Members’ Assembly and EUHA Presidency – November 2025
The June Members’ Assembly will conclude with the ceremonial handover of the EUHA Presidency, as Erasmus MC passes the role to Aarhus University Hospital. Aarhus will serve as EUHA President until the next Members’ Assembly on November 20.
