EUHA invited to the “Unleashing data in digital health; launching H20 Observatories” event

DATE January 25th, 2023

EUHA is proud that Peter Gocke (Charité) joined the roundtable on “Patient-centred partnerships: bringing the European Health Data Space to life” at the H2O-organised event. As the EUHA Digital Health and Data Network coordinator, Peter Gocke highlighted the importance of data sharing to provide high-quality care and research and the recent publication of a EUHA Statement on the European Health Data Space.

The Health Outcomes Observatory (H2O) is a public-private partnership that strives to create a data governance and infrastructure model to collect and incorporate patient outcomes into healthcare decision-making. To do so, the consortium has created national observatories for data collection and analysis in different countries. To celebrate the launches of these observatories in the Netherlands, Austria and Spain, the H2O consortium organised the “Unleashing data in digital health; launching H2O Observatories” event.

The event dedicated the roundtable “Patient-centred partnerships: bringing the European Health Data Space to life” to highlight the need for linked and standardised data. For this reason, EUHA became an important stakeholder in the roundtable, as a cross-border network of digitally driven university hospitals that can proactively drive the development and implementation of the EHDS.

Peter Gocke, representing EUHA’s Digital Health and Data Network, highlighted the recently released EUHA Position Paper on the EHDS “EUHA statement: Key aspects for a successful EHDS – University Hospitals are ready to help unlock its potential”, and especially emphasised the need to join forces to create a European-wide system to share and access data to improve care provision and research at a European level.  As he mentioned:

In addition, Gocke emphasised other points mentioned in the EUHA Statement such as the need for more patient engagement and trust in digital tools and a transparent governance model which grants public healthcare providers the custody of patient data.
